About the lettering
Independent logo analyses of the series (ZenBusiness and HipFonts) both identify the designers' choice as Tungsten Black. The show's famous twist is applied on top of the font rather than drawn into it: each season the title card's lettering rots a little further, accumulating cracks, stains and yellowing. The underlying letterforms never change, so the decay reads as the same world, and the same title, falling apart year after year.
