Sixteen bits bought room for real dialogue faces: bigger character cells, more colours, and in the role-playing games lettering that reads almost like print. This shelf stays small on purpose; several of its faces exist only because someone decoded a ROM bank glyph by glyph.
The Super NES kept tile graphics but gave its games room to breathe: bigger character cells, more colours, and in the RPGs, dialogue faces that read almost like print. Chrono Trigger's proportional 8 by 12 font is the famous case, and it anchors this shelf: no file of it was ever distributed, so the wing's flagship answer comes from extracting the font bank out of the cartridge itself.
This is deliberately the shelf where depth beats breadth. Several of these alphabets exist as fonts only because someone decoded a ROM bank glyph by glyph, and the shelf grows as the extraction pipeline works through the set.
