About the lettering
Nintendo draws the Mario wordmark as custom lettering, multicolored, bouncing capitals that vary subtly between games, and uses separate internal fonts for in-game text, which MarioWiki catalogues title by title. Super Mario 256 matches the modern games' logo style, making it the default choice for fan projects that need the Mario look.
