About the lettering
The Grand Theft Auto wordmark has used Pricedown since the first game in 1997, set solid with a heavy black outline. It is also the series' heads-up font: the money and ammunition counters in GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas are set in a lightly modified Pricedown. Later games add other faces around it (the GTA V box-art title and menus use different fonts), but the logo itself has never changed.
Common questions
What font is used in Grand Theft Auto?
The Grand Theft Auto logo and the in-game money and ammo counters use Pricedown, a display font designed by Ray Larabie in 1997.
Is the GTA font free?
Yes. Pricedown is a free font; the download and its current license terms are on its FontSpace page, linked above.
Why does the GTA font look like a game show?
Ray Larabie based Pricedown on the lettering of the TV game show The Price Is Right, which is where its bold game-show look comes from.
